Earth Day imageCelebrate Earth Day in Flagstaff on Saturday at Heritage Square.  There will be over 50 booths by local businesses and non-profits, local bands and a DJ, electronics recycling drop off, car seat recycling, crafts for kids, face painting, and dancing, and workshops – worm composting, backyard chicken keeping.  Sponsored by the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Program, 11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Admission is free.

This weekend is the opening of the Northern Arizona University Department of Theatre’s production of The School for Lies.  David Ives takes on the charm and wit of Molière with this spicy adaptation of The Misanthrope. Carefully blending seventeenth-century farce with twenty-first century vernacular, Ives’ creates a gaggle of naughty characters that banter and chatter in riotous rhyming couplets amid a glistening world of blather, glamour and scandal. The School for Lies will leave you dizzy from laughter!  Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m.  Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  NAU’s Studio Theatre.  Dates through April 26thTickets at NAU’s Central Ticket Office.

Friday evening is also the grand finale of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra’s 65th Season, as the orchestra presents Carmina Burana, in conjunction with the Master Chorale of Flagstaff, the Shrine of the Ages Choir, and the Flagstaff Youth Chorale. Carmina Burana is Carl Orff’s epic choral-orchestral masterpiece, one of the most iconic works of the 20th-century, At NAU’s Ardrey Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.  Tickets.

See Australian Indie pop/folk singer, songwriter, Vance Joy on Friday evening at NAU’s Prochnow Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in-person, online, or by phone at the NAU Central Ticket Office. $15 for NAU students, $25 for general public.

On Saturday, the Coconino Coalition for Children and Youth host the 5th Annual Early Childhood Fair: Help Me Grow10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Coconino High School. This free community resource fair will provide resources to help your child grow and develop skills to be successful in school and beyond! There will be fun kids’ activities, free dental screenings for children 5 and younger, free books, healthy snacks, a teacher supply swap and interactive circus performances by FunTown Circus and Flagstaff Aerial Arts!  It’s all free!

Want a truly unique, new experience? Airborne Raptors is offering Trainings to Recruit 2015 Show Volunteers.  Meet Airborne Raptors’ birds and learn basic training and handling.  After attending one training, participants may become a certified Airborne Raptors show volunteer. Certification is free, but donations are graciously accepted and go directly towards food for the birds. Space is limited. Sunday, join Team Run Flagstaff for the Sunnyside Up 5K Run/Walk & Kids 400 M Dash at Coconino High School.  Pre-race registration at 7:00 a.m.  Race at 8:00 a.m.  The Kids 400 M Dash will be held entirely on the track.  $20 registration for the 5K run/walk.  Kids 400 M Dash is free.
